With political arguements still raging about the early retirement of the Harrier force it was with great relief that the Station Commander agreed to one last photocall. 1st March 2011 was designated and the men and women of RAF Cottesmore must be congratulated for all their efforts in postioning the special aircraft. Sadly the weather was no better than the previous month.
13th December 2010, the final week of British Harrier operations. The month of December found most of Britain snow bound, Rutland was no exception and the previous two weeks of flying had been cancelled at RAF Cottesmore. With a slight improvement in the weather it was with great relief that the pre arranged air to air sortie was able to take place. Each squadron had received premission to paint one aircraft in a farewell scheme and one aircraft was to be painted as a tribute to the whole Harrier force.
